French Consul General Clarifies Purpose of Visit to Kurdistan Parliament

Some media outlets affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) claimed that foreign diplomatic missions had visited the Kurdistan Parliament to offer their congratulations. However, France’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region rejected this account, clarifying that the visit had been for an information meeting.

Following a report by a KDP-affiliated news outlet claiming that representatives of various diplomatic missions in Erbil had visited the Kurdistan Parliament to welcome the resumption of its sessions, Emmanuel Mignot, France’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, clarified that the visit had not been intended to offer congratulations.

In his clarification, Mignot stated: “We were invited to an information meeting with the Presidency of the Parliament.”
