29th Galawezh International Festival Continues in Sulaymaniyah

The 29th Galawezh International Festival continued for its second day in Sulaymaniyah on Friday, 6 November 2026, under the slogan “Galawezh: A Platform for Diverse Cultures” and dedicated to the Sami Hadi Session. The programme featured research presentations, alongside photography and book exhibitions.

This year’s festival is being held over three days at the Hall of Art (Palace of Culture) in Sulaymaniyah, bringing together writers, poets and researchers from Iraq, Iran, Türkiye, Germany, Spain, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and other countries.

The second and third days of the festival are dedicated to readings of entries submitted to the Galawezh competition. A number of Kurdish, Arab, Persian and international researchers are also presenting their studies. Alongside the main programme, visitors can attend fine art and photography exhibitions and explore books displayed by Kurdish, Arab, Persian and English-language publishing houses.

Through the Galawezh Festival, seminars, symposia and tribute events, the Galawezh Cultural Centre seeks to create an open space for intellectual exchange, bringing together thinkers from different ideological and intellectual backgrounds.

The centre aims to encourage dialogue, enable participants to gain a deeper understanding of one another’s perspectives and provide opportunities to discuss cultural developments and processes.
