Social Democratic Alliance Expresses Support for PUK's Position

The Social Democratic Alliance in the Arab World has expressed its support for the position of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and its President, Bafel Jalal Talabani, regarding the party’s decision to withdraw from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), stressing that genuine partnership must be respected.

In an official statement, the Alliance voiced its support for the position of the PUK Leadership Council and its overall vision. It said the PUK was seeking to strengthen the democratic process and ensure free and fair elections, thereby advancing the political process and fulfilling the aspirations and demands of the people of Kurdistan.

The statement also emphasised the need to put governance back on the right track and establish a national reform government committed to social justice and improving citizens’ living standards, with low-income earners, workers and the working class among its main priorities.

Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of developing a constructive relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government in Baghdad in a way that strengthens Iraq’s unity and stability while safeguarding its democratic experience.

In conclusion, the Social Democratic Alliance in the Arab World reaffirmed its support for the PUK, stressing that strengthening democracy requires respect for pluralism, the will of the people and genuine national partnership. It also called for the public interest to be placed above narrow party interests.
