Syrian authorities said, in a preliminary assessment, that four people were injured in a series of explosions early on Monday at a military site in the Al-Hadaba area, west of Al-Eis in the southern Aleppo countryside.

The official SANA news agency reported that an explosion occurred at a Syrian Arab Army site near the town, adding that the relevant authorities were investigating the cause and circumstances of the incident.

Faisal Muhammad Ali, Aleppo operations commander for the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate, told SANA that continued explosions initially prevented ambulance and rescue teams from reaching the site. Civil Defence teams later entered the area and evacuated four injured people.

Ali said teams were continuing to evacuate residents from homes near the site and close roads leading to the area to protect civilians and allow emergency teams to carry out their work.

Aleppo Governor Azzam Al-Gharib urged residents to remain indoors and avoid approaching or gathering near the blast sites. He said hospitals, ambulance crews and emergency teams were on high alert, while relevant authorities were monitoring the situation and responding to any emergencies.

He also urged residents to follow official instructions, avoid sharing unverified information and rely on statements issued by the authorities.

The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management warned residents in Al-Eis, surrounding areas of the Aleppo countryside and as far as Aleppo city to stay away from the blast site and its vicinity because of the risk posed by shrapnel, unexploded ordnance and other potentially hazardous objects.

Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed Al-Saleh said in a post on X that he was personally monitoring developments. He renewed calls for people to stay away from the area, leave access clear for emergency teams and avoid gathering, filming or approaching unidentified objects.

No official explanation has yet been given for the cause of the explosions. However, preliminary reports indicate that they may have been caused by the detonation of an ammunition depot near the Icarda area.

The incident follows a series of similar explosions at sites and depots containing weapons and ammunition across Syria in recent weeks, several of which have resulted in deaths and injuries.

On 18 September, an ammunition depot inside a military barracks belonging to the Ministry of Defence’s Armament Directorate exploded near Ayyash in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor. According to the latest figures from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 11 Ministry of Defence personnel were killed and 10 others injured, while reports also indicated that people were missing and body parts were found at the scene.

On 9 September, an ammunition depot exploded on the Sarmada road near the Al-Kamouna camp in the northern countryside of Idlib. The initial blast was followed by several secondary explosions, killing 20 people. The depot, which reportedly stored Kornet missiles and rocket-propelled grenades, had previously belonged to Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham before being incorporated into the Ministry of Defence’s stockpile.

Earlier, on 1 September, a vehicle carrying ammunition exploded while being transported near the western entrance to Binnish in the Idlib countryside. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, five people were killed and more than five others injured.
