Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali al-Zaidi has called an emergency meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security following airstrikes on bases belonging to the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF).

According to Iraq's Security Media Cell, the Prime Minister ordered the urgent meeting in response to the deteriorating security situation after multiple airstrikes targeted locations across the country in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Security Media Cell said a comprehensive statement outlining the developments and any decisions taken during the meeting would be issued once the session had concluded.

The announcement follows reports that airstrikes hit several PMF bases in central and southern Iraq earlier on Wednesday. The Popular Mobilisation Authority has alleged that the strikes were carried out by the United States and Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the PMF said a number of its facilities had been targeted, resulting in multiple casualties and damage to its infrastructure. The claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate response from the United States or Saudi Arabia.
