Vision Foundation session.
In an effort to deepen understanding of federalism in Iraq and promote a unified political discourse, the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies organised an open dialogue session attended by members of parliament, writers, university lecturers, academics and military experts.
During the session, Dr Dilawar Othman presented a study titled “Strengthening the Federal System and Shared Governance through Kurdish Political Discourse in Baghdad.” In his presentation, he noted that a number of provisions within the Iraqi Constitution require review and amendment to reflect current realities and challenges. He also underlined the importance of unifying Kurdish political discourse across Iraq.
Participants highlighted the significance of presenting a unified Kurdish position in Baghdad, stressing its direct impact on the lives of citizens. They argued that greater coordination and cohesion among Kurdish political forces would help safeguard the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people, strengthen economic and financial entitlements, and expand opportunities for representation based on merit.
With the formation of the new Iraqi government and expectations of intensified debate over revenues, salaries and the federal budget in the coming period, several participants called for the establishment of a joint coordination mechanism involving the various Kurdish political parties. Such a framework, they argued, would help unify positions and enable a more effective response to future challenges and potential crises.
