Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa Receives Senior German Defence Official.

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Lieutenant General Gunter Schneider, Head of the Armed Forces Division and Director General for Strategy and Operations at Germany’s Federal Ministry of Defence, along with his accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, efforts to strengthen Germany’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and the ongoing threat posed by ISIS to regional security and stability.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued cooperation and coordination in combating terrorism and countering ISIS threats across the region. They also highlighted the need to advance the reform and unification of the Peshmerga forces, alongside continued German military support for the force.

The latest developments in the Middle East and their implications for regional security were also discussed.
