This afternoon, 5 November 2026, the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) convened at the party’s Political Bureau headquarters in Sulaymaniyah, chaired by PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and attended by Iraqi President Nizar Amedi and all members of the council.

Following yesterday’s Kurdistan Parliament session, which was held without the participation of MPs from the PUK, Kurdistan Islamic Union, Kurdistan Justice Group, New Generation, Halwest Movement, the Gorran Movement and several other factions, political observers and the people of Kurdistan are awaiting the positions and decisions of the political parties, particularly the PUK, amid growing political divisions across the Kurdistan Region.

Against this backdrop, the PUK Leadership Council convened to discuss the party’s position on the latest political developments and determine its stance on the current political situation in the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting is attracting considerable attention in the Kurdistan Region, across Iraq and internationally, with its outcome expected to have significant implications for the Region’s political landscape.
