Kurdistan Vice President Meets British Ambassador and New Consul General

On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, Kurdistan Region Vice President Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa received Irfan Siddiq, British Ambassador to Iraq, and Holly Vere, the newly appointed British Consul General to the Kurdistan Region.

During the meeting, Sheikh Jaafar congratulated Vere on assuming her new post and expressed his full support for the success of her mission in the Kurdistan Region.

Vere, for her part, welcomed the opportunity to take up her new role and reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining diplomatic relations with the Kurdistan Region based on mutual interests.

The meeting also addressed the political and security situation in Iraq, the latest developments in the Middle East and their implications for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The reform process and efforts to unify the Peshmerga forces were also discussed.
