The pen used to sign the death sentence of Ajaj Ahmed Hardan, convicted for crimes committed during the Anfal campaign, has been donated to the Amna Suraka National Museum in Sulaymaniyah under the slogan "So That We Never Forget."

During a ceremony held at the Amna Suraka National Museum, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received the pen from Judge Aso Mohammed. The pen had been used by Judge Saad Khazal Lami, President of the Iraqi Supreme Criminal Court, to sign the death sentence against Ajaj Ahmed Hardan on 14 May 2026.

Following the ceremony, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed officially donated the pen to the Amna Suraka National Museum, where it will be preserved at the museum as a historical artefact and a reminder of the atrocities committed during the Anfal campaign against the Kurdish people.

The ceremony marked the pen's significance as a symbol of justice for the victims of torture, killings and the mass burial of hundreds of innocent Kurdish men and women under the former Iraqi regime.

Speaking at the event, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed said the families of the Anfal victims had waited many years to see those responsible for the crimes brought to justice.

"For years, the families and survivors of the Anfal campaign, along with all of us, have waited for those who treated the Kurdish people with such cruelty and inhumanity to be held accountable. I thank everyone in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region who worked together to bring Ajaj to justice," she said.
