Iraqi President Nizar Amedi took part in the 37th regular meeting of the State Administration Alliance on Wednesday evening, 5 August 2026, hosted by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi at the Government Palace.

The meeting was attended by Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi, Chief Justice Faiq Zaidan, and leaders of the alliance representing Iraq’s political forces. Discussions focused on the country’s political, security, economic, and public service sectors, as well as regional developments and their implications for Iraq.

Opening the meeting, Prime Minister al-Zaidi outlined the government’s efforts to strengthen security and stability, improve public services, implement its ministerial programme, and address economic and financial challenges. He reaffirmed that protecting the interests of Iraqi citizens remains the government’s foremost priority.

The State Administration Alliance reiterated its support for maintaining security and stability and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that weapons remain exclusively under state control, in line with the government’s approved programme. Participants also stressed that Iraqi territory must not be used to launch attacks against neighbouring countries or to draw Iraq into regional conflicts that do not serve its national interests.

The alliance stated that any armed activity outside the authority of the state constitutes a threat to national security and violates the Iraqi Constitution, which prohibits armed groups operating beyond the official security forces.

Participants condemned recent attacks targeting Iraqi security forces, which resulted in the deaths of several personnel, and called for the implementation of the government’s timetable for bringing all weapons under state control by 30 September 2026. They emphasised that, after this deadline, any armed activity outside the state’s authority would be dealt with under Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Law.

The meeting also reviewed the country’s economic and financial situation. Participants called for measures to ensure the continuation of essential public services and development projects, diversify Iraq’s oil export routes, increase non-oil revenues, and intensify efforts to combat waste, smuggling, and corruption.

On regional affairs, the alliance reaffirmed Iraq’s support for dialogue and de-escalation, rejecting the use of force to resolve disputes. It also expressed Iraq’s willingness to play a constructive role in easing regional tensions and promoting stability.

The participants discussed developments in neighbouring countries, stressing the importance of strengthening border security, combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and organised crime, while expanding Iraq’s relations with regional and international partners on the basis of mutual interests, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the alliance called for the swift formation of the new government and the submission of its programme to the Iraqi parliament for debate and approval.
