Latif Nerwayi: President Bafel's Message Emphasised Unity to Overcome Challenges

A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Leadership Council has highlighted the importance of PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani's recent message regarding attacks on the Kurdistan Region, saying that internal unity was the central theme of the statement.

Latif Nerwayi, a member of the PUK Leadership Council and head of its Media Board, said President Bafel's message came at a critical time and carried a clear message both to external actors and to political forces inside the Kurdistan Region, so that everyone understands the danger of the stage.

Nerwayi said the emphasis placed on unity was the most significant aspect of the message, stressing that cohesion among political parties and society is essential to confronting current challenges.

"The issue of unity reflected in the message is extremely important for the Kurdistan Region," Nerwayi said.

Addressing the current situation, he said the developments facing the Kurdistan Region require all political parties to adopt a shared national position in order to overcome what he described as a sensitive and dangerous stage.

"A true leader emerges during times of crisis and war," Nerwayi said, adding that President Bafel's message demonstrated his commitment to protecting the security of the people and continuing the approach of his late father, President Mam Jalal.

PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani has strongly condemned what he described as a grave violation of security and sovereignty following a ballistic missile strike launched from Iran, reaffirming that protecting citizens remains the foremost priority while calling for an immediate end to the escalation.

"Last night, our nation faced a grave and unacceptable violation of our security and sovereignty. A ballistic missile strike, launched from Iran, targeted our homeland and our heroic security forces," he said.

"First and foremost, our immediate priority is the safety, well-being, and protection of our citizens. Emergency services and defense forces are fully engaged, working tirelessly to ensure security across the country," he added. "We stand with our brothers in Erbil at this grave time, an attack on one is an attack on all."

The PUK President's message came after missile and strikes hit several locations in Sulaymaniyah, while other were intercepted in the skies over Erbil on Friday amid a series of recent aerial security incidents across the Kurdistan Region, as tensions continue to escalate following the conflict between the United States and Iran.
