Qubad Talabani, Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister, has met Russian Ambassador Elbrus Kutrashev.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, has met with Russian Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev to discuss regional developments and issues of mutual interest.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, was also attended by Maxim Rubin, Russia's Consul General to the Kurdistan Region.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed the latest developments in the region and expressed hope that ongoing understandings between the United States and Iran would produce a positive outcome for both countries and contribute to wider regional stability.
The discussions also focused on relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in Baghdad. Talabani highlighted the formation of Iraq's new government, describing it as the beginning of a new phase in the country's political development.
He stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Baghdad, saying that both sides should work together to resolve outstanding issues while advancing economic development and improving the living standards of citizens.
Talabani further noted that Iraq has taken positive steps towards strengthening its political independence, adding that all political parties should support the new federal government to enable it to better safeguard the country from regional and international tensions.
