Iraqi PM Oversees Handover of National Security Leadership Positions

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi on Saturday oversaw the handover ceremonies for the positions of National Security Advisor and Head of the National Security Service.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi on Saturday oversaw the handover ceremonies for the positions of National Security Advisor and Head of the National Security Service.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Media Office, the handover ceremony at the National Security Advisory was conducted between the newly appointed National Security Advisor, Qasim Hassan al-Aboudi, and the outgoing advisor, Qasim Mohammed Jalal al-Araji.
During the ceremony, al-Zaidi stressed the importance of maintaining professional standards, strengthening institutional performance, and continuing to carry out the responsibilities assigned to the Advisory. He said these efforts would contribute to enhancing security and stability while supporting the capabilities of relevant security agencies and formations.
The Prime Minister also praised al-Araji's performance during his tenure, emphasising the need to continue monitoring strategic security files and implementing programmes aimed at strengthening the independence of Iraq's security decision-making and safeguarding national sovereignty.
In a separate ceremony, al-Zaidi oversaw the transfer of responsibilities between the newly appointed Head of the National Security Service, Basim Mohammed Younis al-Badri, and the outgoing head, Abdul Karim Abdul Fadhil Hussein al-Basri.
A separate statement from the Prime Minister's office said al-Zaidi underscored the importance of the National Security Service continuing its national duties in protecting Iraq's security and reinforcing stability. He also commended the efforts of Abdul Karim al-Basri during his tenure and wished Basim al-Badri success in his new position.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to maintain institutional continuity and strengthen coordination among security agencies to consolidate national security and protect the state's supreme interests.
