The Special Presidential Envoy for Iraq and Syria Tom Barrack has said he is “happy and honoured” to be back in Baghdad as he begins a series of meetings aimed at strengthening relations between Washington and Iraq.

In a statement shared on X, Barrack confirmed that he met with officials from the US Embassy in Baghdad, including the Chargé d’Affaires Joshua Harris. Barrack is expected to meet Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Zaidi, where he will convey what he described as President Donald Trump’s support for the Iraqi government. He added that discussions would focus on outlining “a new direction” for bilateral relations.

According to Barrack, the aim of the talks is to advance a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership between the United States and Iraq.
