Iraqi President: Reform, Strong Institutions and Global Partnerships are Driving Iraq’s Future

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi and senior United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) official Dr. Abdallah Al Dardari discussed expanding cooperation to support Iraq’s development priorities and institutional reform during a meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad on Sunday.

Dr. Al Dardari, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Assistant Administrator of UNDP and Director of its Regional Bureau for Arab States, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Iraq and supporting the country’s long-term development goals.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across key development sectors, including public service delivery, institutional capacity development and initiatives aimed at delivering tangible benefits to citizens. 

The two sides also explored opportunities to draw on international expertise and best practices to support Iraq’s ongoing reform efforts and accelerate sustainable development.

President Amedi said Iraq’s growing stability and continued institutional progress were creating favorable conditions for stronger international partnerships, emphasising that capable and responsive state institutions remain essential to meeting citizens’ expectations and advancing national development.

"Iraq is committed to building effective partnerships that strengthen our institutions, advance reform and deliver lasting improvements for our citizens," President Amedi said. "Through cooperation with international organisations, we are creating the foundations for sustainable development, economic opportunity and long-term prosperity," he added.

For his part, Dr. Al Dardari highlighted UNDP’s continued commitment to supporting Iraq’s development priorities and expanding cooperation with national institutions, underscoring the importance of joint efforts that promote inclusive growth, institutional resilience and sustainable progress.
