Kurdistan VP, Finnish Envoy Discuss Regional Security and Government Formation

Vice President of the Kurdistan Region Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa received Finnish Deputy Ambassador to Iraq Aki Kauppinen.

Vice President of the Kurdistan Region Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa received Finnish Deputy Ambassador to Iraq Aki Kauppinen on Saturday to discuss bilateral relations between Finland, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider Middle East.

During the meeting, the Vice President expressed appreciation for Finland’s continued support to the Kurdistan Region, particularly its contributions to the fight against ISIS and its role in training the Peshmerga forces. He also stressed the importance of further strengthening diplomatic relations between Finland and the Kurdistan Region on the basis of mutual interests.

The two sides also discussed the internal political situation in the Kurdistan Region and the ongoing efforts to form the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet. Both parties underscored the importance of unity and cooperation among the Kurdistan Region’s political forces to ensure the success of the government formation process.
