PUK's Salar Mahmoud Holds High-Level Meetings at European Parliament on Kurdish Issue

Salar Mahmoud, Head of the Foreign Relations Central Board of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), together with a number of PUK members, paid a visit to the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.

During the visit, he held meetings with Giuseppe Famà, Head of the Arab States and Iraq Department at the European Union, along with his deputy, Jaak Madison, a Member of the European Parliament; Thierry Mariani, an MEP and former French Minister of Transport; and Elaine Samin, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Belgian Parliament.

The discussions focused on the Kurdish question and Kurdistan, expressions of support for the legitimate cause of the Kurdish people and the sacrifices they have made, as well as issues affecting the Kurdish diaspora.

During his meeting with European Union officials, Mahmoud also discussed the situation in Kurdistan and Iraq in light of ongoing developments in the Middle East, as well as the role of the Kurdish people in promoting regional stability.

For their part, EU officials welcomed the active participation of the Kurdish people and the PUK in the Iraqi political process, including the election of Iraq’s President and the formation of the new federal government. They also stressed the importance of resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad through continued dialogue and negotiations in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.
