Iraqi Court Seizes Millions in Assets in Oil Ministry Corruption Investigation

The investigating judge at Iraq's Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court has announced that preliminary investigations into the case of detained defendant Adnan Mohammed Mahmoud, former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, and several associates have resulted in extensive legal measures, including the seizure of large sums of money and numerous properties linked to the case.

According to a statement issued by the judiciary’s media office, the judge said that the initial investigative procedures had led to the seizure of around 40 properties across the governorates of Baghdad, Saladin, and Erbil.

The statement added that authorities had also confiscated cash estimated at approximately 10 million U.S. dollars and 3 billion Iraqi dinars, in addition to around 1.5 kilograms of gold.

The judge further stated that investigations had uncovered large quantities of light and medium weapons, noting that inquiries remain ongoing to identify all individuals and entities involved in the case.
