The Progressive Alliance (PA) congratulated the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on the occasion of its 51st founding anniversary, praising the party’s longstanding commitment to democracy, human rights, and the Kurdish people’s struggle for self-determination.
The PA's message read:
"On behalf of the Progressive Alliance and its member parties, I write to congratulate you and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on your 51st founding anniversary.
Fifty-one years is not a number. It is a record of choices made under pressure: to organise rather than surrender, to defend democratic politics when authoritarian shortcuts were available, to hold a movement together when the forces working against it were considerable. Not many parties survive long enough to mark five decades under difficult circumstances. Fewer survive them with their founding convictions still intact.
We are also aware that this anniversary does not arrive in easy circumstances. The threats facing the Kurdistan Region are real. The Progressive Alliance stands with the people of Kurdistan, and we stand with you.
President Jalal Talabani built his politics on coexistence, dialogue, and democratic solidarity — not as ideals, but as the only durable foundations for political life in a fractured region. In the context of his time, that was not a moderate position. It was a demanding one. His example continues to travel beyond the borders he worked across.
We wish you and the PUK continued strength, and we are glad to stand among your friends.
Yours in solidarity,
Marie Chris Cabreros
Global Coordinator
Progressive Alliance"
