Iraqi President, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Reaffirm Strategic Partnership and Regional Stability

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi received the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Iraq Joshua Harris.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi received the United States Chargé d’Affaires to Iraq, Joshua Harris, on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
The meeting reviewed Iraq–United States relations and ways to further strengthen them across various fields. Discussions also addressed the importance of ensuring that arms remain exclusively under state authority.
President Amedi underscored the need to advance bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Strategic Framework Agreement and to support development and investment projects in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two friendly peoples.
He also stressed that Iraq remains committed to maintaining full responsibility for the country’s security file and to pursuing constructive relations with all nations on the basis of the interests of its people, respect for its sovereignty, and non-interference in its internal affairs.
He also emphasized the importance of joint efforts to consolidate security and stability across the region, contain tensions, and prioritise dialogue and diplomatic means in addressing differences and unresolved issues in a way that advances regional security and peace.
For his part, Harris reaffirmed his country’s support for Iraq’s security, stability and sovereignty, stressing the United States’ commitment to continuing cooperation with Iraq across various sectors.
He also commended Iraq’s role in promoting regional security and stability, as well as its efforts to bridge differences and support dialogue and understanding among the countries of the region.
