Qubad Talabani, a member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has issued a message on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the founding of the party, stating that the PUK emerged as a necessary force to restore courage and hope, organise the people, and revive the struggle for the rights and liberation of the Kurdish people.

Talabani's message for PUK founding anniversary read:

In 1975, after the shadow of defeat and hopelessness had spread across Kurdistan, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) emerged as a necessary force to restore courage and hope, organise the people, and revive the struggle for the rights and liberation of the Kurdish people. Today, 51 years later, the PUK remains equally necessary in order to protect achievements, resolve outstanding issues, and safeguard the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people.

Why?

Because the PUK is a respected force in Baghdad and internationally, recognised for its positions and policies. It has strong allies and, through wise policies, has been able to open the door to solutions during the most difficult crises and critical moments. Today, many view the presence of the PUK in Baghdad as a guarantee for protecting Kurdish rights and contributing to the resolution of Iraq’s challenges.

For the Kurdistan Region, peace, freedom, democracy, and justice remain the enduring principles of the PUK. The party seeks to restore balance in governance in order to strengthen democracy and justice, while improving public services and the living conditions of citizens without discrimination.

Based on its belief in justice and improving the lives of citizens, the PUK’s policy at this stage focuses on balanced development and economic recovery across the districts and sub-districts.

As we have promised before, and reaffirm once again, we remain committed to serving the people of Kurdistan. The interests, aspirations, and demands of the Kurdish people are the interests, aspirations, and positions of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

On the 51st anniversary of the establishment of the PUK, we commemorate all the martyrs of the PUK and extend our greetings to President Mam Jalal, the members of the founding board, and all comrades and supporters who devoted themselves to the struggle.

We also extend our warmest congratulations to all comrades, loyal supporters, and the proud families of the martyrs of the PUK. We are confident that, with the support and trust of its people, the PUK will continue to grow and remain a force of hope and confidence for the Kurdish people.
