Iraqi President: PUK has Been a Leading National Force in Defending the People's Rights

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi has congratulated the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani, along with the party’s leadership, members, and supporters, on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the founding of the PUK, reaffirming that the PUK has been a leading national political force that has played an effective role in defending the rights of the people and promoting the values of freedom, democracy, and justice. 

President Amedi's message read:

On the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani, the party’s leadership, members and supporters. I also pay tribute, with deep respect and appreciation, to the party’s distinguished history and contributions since its establishment under the leadership of the late President Jalal Talabani.

For more than five decades, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has been a leading national political force, helping to advance the values of freedom, democracy and justice while defending the rights and aspirations of the people. The party has played a significant role in key chapters of Iraq’s modern history, contributing to the struggle against dictatorship and authoritarianism and supporting efforts to build a state founded on democratic institutions and the rule of law.

On this occasion, we also honor the enduring legacy of the late President Mam Jalal, who devoted his life to serving his people and country. Through his wisdom, vision and commitment to dialogue, he helped strengthen the foundations of a democratic, pluralistic and federal Iraq and fostered a spirit of national understanding among the country’s diverse communities.

As we join our people in commemorating this important anniversary, we reaffirm our confidence in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s continued national role in supporting Iraq’s democratic path and strengthening partnership among the country’s political forces. Such efforts are essential to fulfilling the aspirations of all Iraqis for a future defined by greater security, stability and prosperity.

We also pay tribute to the martyrs of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and their families. Their sacrifices in defense of national and humanitarian principles remain a lasting testament to the struggle for freedom, democracy and the rights of their people, and their legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
