The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has issued a message marking International Workers’ Day, reaffirming its support for workers and their ongoing struggle to secure their full rights.
In the statement, the PUK extended its warmest congratulations to all workers across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq on the occasion of 1 May, describing it as a day of solidarity and a renewed expression of the working class’s enduring struggle. It noted that the day honours those who rely on daily wages and those whose livelihoods depend on their work in factories and other sectors.
The message highlighted the role of workers in Kurdistan as a vital and productive part of society, emphasising their active contribution to the various stages of the national liberation movement, alongside their continued efforts to achieve their rights. It described them as a key force for progress and development.
Reaffirming its position, the Political Bureau stressed its full support for defending the legitimate rights of all workers—both intellectual and manual—to ensure a dignified standard of living and greater employment opportunities, in line with modern developments, principles of justice, and the values of trade unionism and professionalism.
The statement also paid tribute to workers who lost their lives in pursuit of a dignified life, as well as those martyred in the course of the people’s liberation struggle.
