Qubad Talabani Meets Russian CG in Erbil to Discuss Iraq’s Political Process

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Maxim Rubin, the Consul General of the Russia in the Kurdistan Region, for discussions on regional developments and the situation in Iraq.

During the meeting, which took place on Wednesday in Erbil, both sides exchanged views on the wider regional landscape, including the current phase of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran. They expressed hope that the two countries will be able to resolve their differences through diplomacy and negotiations, contributing to the restoration of peace and stability across the region.

A further key topic of discussion was Iraq’s domestic political situation, including the presidential election process and the nomination of a new Prime Minister tasked with forming the next federal government. Qubad Talabani described efforts to form a government in the current climate of regional tension as a positive step. He expressed hope that the designated Prime Minister would succeed in forming a cabinet that reflects the country’s diverse components and helps shield Iraq from further regional instability.

He also addressed outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government. Talabani stressed the importance of addressing these matters in accordance with the Constitution, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both sides.
