Qubad Talabani Reaffirms Commitment to Press Freedom and Journalists’ Rights

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, has issued a message of congratulations on the anniversary of Kurdish journalism.

The message reads as follows:

128 years ago, Miqdad Badir Khan lit a candle in Cairo. This was not only an expression of national struggle, but also the beginning of Kurdish intellectual awakening.

Today, as we mark Kurdish Journalism Day, we see it as our responsibility to uphold and defend freedom of expression.

For us, journalism acts as a mirror reflecting our shortcomings, an essential part of the cultural and civic struggle, and a guiding light towards reform.

On this occasion, I extend my congratulations to all journalists and to the Kurdish people, and I reaffirm our commitment to improving the working conditions of journalists.
