The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has mobilised extensive relief efforts in the aftermath of the recent floods in Chamchamal, with multiple PUK-affiliated bodies providing assistance to affected residents.
Street-Level Relief Campaign
Following recommendations from PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, the PUK’s Public Administration and Finance Bureau, in coordination with the Anzo Company, has launched a large-scale street-level initiative to aid victims and support emergency service teams. Volunteers have been distributing essential supplies and coordinating with local authorities to ensure relief reaches those most in need.
Books Donated to Public Library
In addition, the PUK’s Awareness Board has donated a substantial number of printed books in Kurdish and Arabic to the Chamchamal Public Library, which lost around 2,500 books during the floods. The Board has taken full responsibility for the donation and has expressed readiness to provide further assistance if required.
Qubad Talabani Monitors Relief Efforts
Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Qubad Talabani has been on the ground in Chamchamal, visiting victims and their families to oversee relief operations. Speaking to the media, he confirmed that aid and funds have been collected from PUK, private donors, and non-governmental organisations. “A relief fund will be established to ensure those who suffered losses are fairly compensated,” he said.
The coordinated efforts by PUK Bureaus, organisations, and local authorities demonstrate a comprehensive response to the flood disaster, combining immediate relief with long-term recovery initiatives for the people of Chamchamal.
