Kurdistan VP, British Ambassador Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Ties

Kurdistan VP Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa & British Ambassador Irfan Siddiq.

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received on Monday, 18 August 2025, Irfan Siddiq, the British Ambassador to Iraq, and his accompanying delegation.

In addition to the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom, the meeting focused on the latest political developments in Iraq and the wider region, as well as the reform process within the Peshmerga Ministry and the steps towards unifying the Peshmerga under the framework of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.

The two sides also addressed the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad. Both parties emphasised the importance of continuing dialogue and negotiations in line with the Iraqi constitution to reach sustainable solutions.

In another part of the meeting, attended by the British Consul General Andrew Bizley, they discussed the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, as well as boosting coordination and further deepening diplomatic ties between the UK and the Kurdistan Region.
