IHEC Approves Regulations for 2025 Parliamentary Elections

The Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has approved the official regulations governing the 2025 Iraqi parliament elections.
Jumana al-Ghalai, Spokesperson for the IHEC, told PUKMEDIA: “The Board has formally ratified the regulations for the 2025 parliamentary elections.”
She explained that the approved regulations cover several key areas, including: the electoral campaign framework, the accreditation procedures for political party and alliance agents, individual representatives, domestic and international election observers, as well as local and international media outlets.
Al-Ghalai also shared the latest statistics regarding polling station staffing applications: “So far, 737,316 individuals have applied to work at polling stations, comprising 496,652 men and 240,664 women. Of these, 412,268 are current employees, while 325,048 are university graduates or students.”
Meanwhile, Hassan Hadi Zayer, a member of the IHEC’s media team, told the Iraqi News Agency that the official campaign period for candidates will commence on 10 September and run until 8 November, ending 24 hours before the designated early voting day.
He added that the Commission has set a range of penalties for electoral violations, which include warnings, fines ranging from one million to 25 million Iraqi dinars, and in serious cases, disqualification from the electoral race, depending on the nature and severity of the breach.
