Ministerial Committee Holds First Meeting to Address Federal-KRG Financial Disputes

The ministerial committee assigned to address unresolved matters between the Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) convened its first session to discuss key issues surrounding the transfer of the Region’s oil and non-oil revenues, as well as the settlement and nationalisation of public sector salaries.

Following the meeting, the Federal Ministry of Planning released a statement, a copy of which was obtained by PUKMEDIA, underscoring “the importance of continuing dialogue with the aim of reaching swift, fair, and practical solutions that ensure the rights of employees in the Kurdistan Region are upheld.”

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning. In attendance were Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Minister of Housing and Reconstruction, Minister of Health, Minister of Industry and Minerals, and Minister of Justice.

The committee reviewed two documents submitted by both the federal government and KRG. These covered several critical topics, including the regulation of oil exports, levels of domestic consumption of petroleum products, the disbursement of the Region’s share from the national treasury, federal non-oil revenue allocations, and the issue of salary Nationalisation for employees in the Kurdistan Region.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing technical and administrative discussions aimed at resolving these matters fairly and efficiently, in a manner that respects the rights of KRG employees in line with their counterparts across other Iraqi provinces. The dialogue is to be conducted within the framework of Iraq’s unified financial policy.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani had directed the formation of this committee during a cabinet session held on Tuesday, instructing it to study the federal and regional proposals and present its recommendations to the Council of Ministers to facilitate a prompt and appropriate decision.
