Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Durel and discussed the formation of the government and several other topics of shared interest.
The most recent developments in the negotiations for forming the tenth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) were discussed at the meeting, which took place on Monday, March 17, 2025, with Jann Braem, the French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, in attendance.
Deputy Prime Minister Talabani stated that the meeting between Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), and Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, took place in a positive atmosphere and that a good understanding has been reached on important issues concerning the formation of the government. He pointed out that the meeting will have a positive effect on the PUK and KDP senior negotiating delegations' next meeting.
Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that the Kurdistan Region needs an efficient, strong, and service-oriented government. He stated that all of their efforts in the government formation process are directed towards developing suitable mechanisms to compel the parties to implement the agreement.
Another topic of discussion at the meeting was the situation in Syria, and Mazloum Abdi and Ahmed al-Sharaa's agreement was viewed as an essential and necessary move. The Deputy Prime Minister hoped that all Syrian parties and communities could settle conflicts through dialogue and understanding, and that the new Syria would be rebuilt in such a way that all communities' rights and demands are met.
