PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.
On International Women's Day, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), paid tribute to women in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world, citing firm and unwavering belief in equality and expanding their involvement in decision-making and power centres.
President Bafel's message for women said:
On 8 March, International Women's Day, I extend heartfelt congratulations to women in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world.
I hope today marks a serious start for our collective efforts to uphold women's rights, support in their struggle, end discrimination, and fulfil their demands and goals.
We firmly and unwaveringly believe in equality and expanding their involvement in decision-making and power centres. Based on this unwavering tenet, we will give women more opportunities within the PUK so they can carry on their struggle, and alongside their organisational work, we will together reignite their fight and prevent their freedoms from being restricted under any circumstances.
We would like to use this opportunity to send our sincere regards to all the women who took part in the Kurdish struggle and made sacrifices for the sake of our people and land, whether as Peshmergas and revolutionaries, as mothers, as teachers, or as activists. We shall always be grateful to you and we will always support your endeavours and hardships.
I have always been with you and will always be with you. I'll take the lead in erasing all barriers so that women like you can contribute more to the Kurdistan Region and take part in advancements and transformations in every aspect of life.
Bafel Jalal Talabani
President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
