PUK President: Constitution is Basis for Governing the State

Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Steven Bitner, the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah. They discussed the situation in the Kurdistan Region and the elections. 

They stressed the need for establishing an appropriate environment for citizens to engage in the process without any restrictions, thus fostering democracy in the Kurdistan Region.

President Bafel stated: "Entangling people's lives with political disputes and using salaries, a fundamental right of citizens, for the sake of party agendas was unjust. Fortunately, we were able to keep that from happening again, and our people's livelihoods were not jeopardised."

Regarding the success of the political process in Iraq and the independence of the judiciary in the region, President Bafel stated: "We fully endorse all rulings made by the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, a critical and delicate institution in the country. We hold it in high regard and expect all parties to comply without interfering with its operation. The constitution provides the fundamental framework for managing the state and resolving issues. Indeed, the institution's efforts have benefited all ethnicities and communities while aiming for justice."
