The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has confirmed that ballot papers for general and special voting in the Kurdistan parliamentary elections are being printed. The spokesperson for IHEC stated that all necessary preparations and tasks for the elections in Kurdistan are progressing as planned.
IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA: "The commission is actively engaged in its preparations for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, and its offices in the governorates of the Kurdistan Region are operational, distributing biometric voting cards to voters on a regular basis."
According to information available to PUKMEDIA, 818,997 new biometric cards have been printed in the past four months, of which 290,653 have been returned to voters and 528,344 remain to be distributed.
The IHEC Spokesperson added: "There are currently 173 voter registration stations in the Kurdistan Region. The distribution of voting cards is ongoing. As of now, 99,972 cards have been returned to voters in Erbil, 115,326 cards in Sulaymaniyah, and 75,355 cards in Duhok. This adds up to a total of 290,653 voting cards."
As part of the preparations for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, the IHEC has begun printing sample ballot papers that include the names of parties and coalitions and the number of candidates participating in the Kurdistan parliamentary elections scheduled to take place on June 10, 2024.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and other Kurdish parties, except the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), have expressed their readiness for the parliamentary elections on that date.
