Iraqi President, Prime Minister Discuss Government Formation and Economic Reform

Iraqi President and Iraqi PM meet in Baghdad.

President of the Republic of Iraq Nizar Amedi met with Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi in Baghdad on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, to discuss the overall national situation, the completion of the government formation process, and economic and development issues affecting various segments of society.

The meeting stressed the importance of the government continuing to implement its programme, which is centred on economic reform and openness to productive partnerships with brotherly and friendly countries, in ways that support the Iraqi economy and create employment opportunities.

The two sides also underscored the need for continued efforts to develop effective and sustainable solutions to existing challenges across various fields and sectors.
