The Iraqi Parliament has decided to host the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq to discuss the federal government’s decision to adjust the Iraqi dinar’s exchange rate against the US dollar.

As a result, the agenda of Wednesday’s parliamentary session, 7 October 2026, was postponed, with the session instead dedicated to discussing the repercussions of the decision.

Dr Bryar Rashid, a Member of Parliament representing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc, told PUKMEDIA: “Following our insistence, the Parliament’s presidency decided to postpone today’s session agenda to discuss the repercussions of the federal government’s decision to adjust the dollar exchange rate.”

“At the request of several MPs, the Parliament’s presidency also decided to host Finance Minister Falih Sari and Central Bank of Iraq Governor Nizar Nasser to discuss the decision, the reasons behind it and its impact on citizens’ living conditions,” Dr Rashid added.

Meanwhile, PUK bloc member Pola Sirwan Derashay said that “a number of MPs collected signatures requesting the hosting of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank, and the request was approved by all MPs present at the session.”

He noted that the two officials are scheduled to appear before Parliament on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Central Bank of Iraq announced an adjustment to the Iraqi dinar’s exchange rate against the US dollar, effective 7 October 2026.

Under the new rates:

-Purchase price of the dollar from the Ministry of Finance: 1,500 dinars per dollar.
-Selling price of the dollar to banks: 1,510 dinars per dollar.
-Cash selling price of the dollar to the public: 1,520 dinars per dollar.
