Following extensive monitoring and the collection of accurate intelligence, forces from the General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism (CTG) have arrested a wanted terrorist, according to an official statement.

The CTG said the suspect was a member of the so-called ISIS terrorist organisation and had operated within its ‘Division 210’.

According to the statement, the suspect’s father had served as a military squad commander within ISIS in the so-called ‘Northern Baghdad Governorate’ before later being appointed as the group’s wali, or governor, of Fallujah.

The CTG said the suspect’s father was killed in an airstrike in the Abu Ghraib district, while his brother was killed by security forces in the Nibaie area.

It added that following the collapse of ISIS, the suspect moved to Sulaymaniyah, where he settled and continued operating as an active member of the organisation in the region.

He was subsequently arrested by Counter-Terrorism forces following intelligence-led operations, the statement said.
