Iraqi President Nizar Amedi received former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad on Sunday, 4 October 2026, with the two sides discussing Iraqi-Turkish relations, regional developments and efforts to promote peace and stability.

According to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency, the meeting addressed a range of regional issues and reviewed the trajectory of relations between Iraq and Türkiye, as well as the latest developments in the region.

President Amedi stressed the importance of relying on dialogue and mutual understanding to address key issues and supporting efforts to consolidate security and stability, thereby creating greater opportunities for cooperation and coordination among the countries and peoples of the region.

He also affirmed Iraq’s support for the peace process in Türkiye and for all efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability while respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity and serving the interests of the peoples concerned.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of strengthening Iraq’s sovereignty following the withdrawal of International Coalition forces. President Amedi stressed the need for neighbouring countries to cooperate in ensuring non-interference in Iraq’s internal affairs and respecting its national decision-making.

For his part, Davutoğlu underscored Iraq’s importance and position in the region, expressing his appreciation for the longstanding ties between the Iraqi and Turkish peoples and wishing Iraq and its people continued stability and prosperity.
