Koya University Pays Tribute to President Mam Jalal on Ninth Anniversary of His Passing

The Presidency of Koya University paid tribute President Mam in a statement on the anniversary of his passing, stating that President Mam Jalal had consistently affirmed that the advancement of any nation fundamentally depends on its academic excellence and its ability to nurture conscious, critical, and innovative minds.
Nine years ago today, on 3 October 2017, former Iraqi President and national leader Jalal Talabani, widely known as Mam Jalal, passed away in Berlin, Germany, at the age of 83.

Nine years have passed since the departure of the distinguished leader and symbol of peace and unity, President Mam Jalal. An extraordinary statesman, he devoted a lifetime of tireless struggle to the freedom and dignity of his people, dedicating his life as a beacon to achieve legitimate rights and cultivate an advanced democratic vision across Kurdistan and Iraq.
President Mam Jalal never confined his struggle to revolutionary ranks or political domains; rather, he held a profound conviction that true sovereignty and a prosperous future are built upon the foundation of science, enlightenment, and modern education. He consistently affirmed that the advancement of any nation fundamentally depends on its academic excellence and its ability to nurture conscious, critical, and innovative minds.
Within this comprehensive strategic vision, his decision to establish Koya University in a city renowned for its profound heritage of history, literature, art, and resilience marked a historic turning point. President Mam Jalal laid the university's foundation stone with his own hands, envisioning it as an academic stronghold and a conduit for cultivating specialists and leaders dedicated to serving and rebuilding the nation. From its inception onward, he remained an enduring patron, closely fostering its development.
Today, Koya University—representing President Mam Jalal’s enduring scientific and national legacy—experiences active growth and institutional advancement. On this solemn occasion, the Presidency of Koya University, alongside faculty members, administrative staff, and students, reaffirms that true fidelity to President Mam Jalal’s path lies in sustaining academic quality, producing impactful research, delivering dedicated community service, and advancing environmental stewardship within the framework of the Koya University Strategic Plan.
On this ninth anniversary of his passing, we extend tributes of profound gratitude and remembrance to his pure soul. His visionary legacy and inspiring path will forever remain alive in the hearts of all who are devoted to science and nation-building.
