ICTS Expresses Regret Over Civilian Deaths in Kirkuk Incident

The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (ICTS) announced on Thursday that two committees have been formed to investigate the incident in Kirkuk in which two citizens were killed.

In a statement, the ICTS said a Counter-Terrorism force had pursued two terrorists in a densely populated residential area in Kirkuk Governorate. According to the statement, one was wearing an explosive belt while the other was armed, and both were allegedly preparing to carry out a terrorist attack targeting civilians in the area.

The ICTS said that as the force attempted to apprehend the two men, a clash broke out, leaving one terrorist dead and the other arrested. two citizens were also killed and four ICTS personnel were injured in the incident.

The statement said that, immediately after the incident, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces ordered the formation of a joint investigative committee. The head of the ICTS also ordered a separate committee to establish the facts and determine responsibility.

The ICTS expressed its deep regret over the harm caused to citizens and offered its sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the two victims, while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
