The Turkish Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday that Turkish forces will gradually hand over the Bashiqa-Zelikan base to the Iraqi federal government, in accordance with an agreed mechanism and timetable.

The ministry said the decision follows progress made by the Iraqi government in implementing security measures in Sinjar, which have contributed to restoring state authority and strengthening security and stability in the area.
