Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani received Eoon-Gyo Shim, the newly appointed Consul General of South Korea, in Erbil on Wednesday (30 September 2026), with the two sides discussing a range of issues of mutual interest.

Talabani congratulated Shim on assuming his new post and wished him success in his duties, reaffirming his readiness to strengthen cooperation and coordination aimed at further developing relations between South Korea and the Kurdistan Region.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the South Korean government for its assistance to the Kurdistan Region through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and called for such support to be extended beyond major cities to districts and sub-districts. In particular, he requested support for the Raparin Development Agency as part of the Region’s development programme.

The meeting also addressed ways to enhance young people’s skills in technology and artificial intelligence. In this regard, Talabani called on the South Korean government to support the Hub Foundation through training and the transfer of expertise and experience.

Talabani also welcomed the South Korean cultural festival, which is due to be held in Sulaymaniyah next month by the South Korean Consulate, and expressed his readiness to provide all forms of cooperation and support for the event.
