Rebwar Taha, First Deputy Governor of Kirkuk, said the committee established by the Iraqi Prime Minister to investigate the Prde incident is expected to complete its inquiry and submit its findings to the Prime Minister today, stressing that all details surrounding the incident have been presented to the committee.

Speaking at a press conference monitored by PUKMEDIA, Taha said local authorities had not been informed of the arrival of the force involved in the incident, which resulted in the deaths of two young men. He added that the Iraqi security committee had acknowledged that mistakes were made during the operation.

Taha said members of the investigation committee are currently in the area, where they have met with local officials and are due to visit the families of the two deceased men. He stressed that the committee would make no statements until the investigation had been completed and its findings submitted to the Iraqi Prime Minister.

He said local officials had presented the committee with the “facts as they are”, emphasising that negligence had occurred during the incident. Taha also stressed that combating terrorism involves more than simply opening fire.

Meanwhile, the First Deputy Governor of Kirkuk announced a decision to compensate the families of the two deceased men, as well as shop owners whose businesses were damaged during the incident.

He said he had contacted the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office on the matter, adding that the Director of Prde Subdistrict had been tasked with assessing the damage and submitting a report to facilitate the necessary compensation procedures.
