The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve was established in 2014 to advise, assist and enable partner forces in the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

"CENTCOM established Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve in 2014 to advise, assist, and enable partner forces in the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria," CENTCOM said in a post on X.

"Over the last 12 years, the United States and Coalition partners have achieved tremendous success in eliminating and capturing thousands of terrorists," it added.

Under an agreement between Washington and the Iraqi federal government, all remaining US troops in Iraq are scheduled to leave the country by 30 September, as the international coalition’s mission against ISIS is gradually wound down.

The withdrawal is expected to bring an end to the US military presence in Iraq, which resumed in 2003 following the invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein's regime.
