Qubad Talabani Pays Tribute to Rafiq Hilmi's Enduring Legacy

Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani has paid tribute to the legacy of prominent Kurdish politician, intellectual and patriot Rafiq Hilmi, describing his story as a living reflection of a century of the Kurdish people's struggle.

In a social media post, Talabani said he was pleased to meet Ms Zhyan, the daughter of Rafiq Hilmi, during his visit to Halabja.

Talabani said speaking with her felt like stepping into the history of the Kurdish national movement.

"It is the living history of a century of the Kurdish people's struggle," he wrote. "When she speaks to you, you feel as though part of your soul was left behind during the reign of the King of Kurdistan, or that you were a secret member of the Hiwa Party."

He added that her words carried the spirit of the past and reflected the thoughts and experiences of a century of Kurdish history.

Talabani concluded by praying for Ms Zhyan's long life and good health, describing her as a cherished living link to the legacy of Rafiq Hilmi.
