At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured in a blast in Dera Ismail Khan, north-western Pakistan, on Saturday, according to emergency service Rescue 1122.

According to Reuters, the explosion occurred near Aman Mela in the Darazinda area of the district, prompting rescue teams from the Darazinda station to launch emergency operations, provide medical treatment to the injured and transfer them to hospital.

Dera Ismail Khan, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near Pakistan's border with Afghanistan, has repeatedly been targeted by Islamist militant violence, with attacks frequently directed at police and security forces.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for Saturday's attack, Reuters reported.

The blast comes amid continuing security incidents in the district this month, including attacks linked to the Pakistani Taliban.
