Najaf International Airport announced on Friday, September 25, 2026, the suspension of all flights arriving from and departing for Iran.

In a statement, the airport administration said that, in accordance with official directives issued by the competent authorities, all flights arriving from and departing for the Islamic Republic of Iran would be suspended from 2:00am on Friday until further notice.

The administration instructed airlines and relevant operational entities to take the necessary measures and refrain from carrying out any operational procedures related to flights covered by the directive throughout the suspension period.

It added that any updates or subsequent directives concerning the resumption of flights would be communicated officially.

On September 22, the spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation announced that airports in Baghdad and Muscat had stopped accepting flights from Iran.

Earlier, on September 8, the US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on 36 entities and individuals linked to Iran’s aviation sector, including 27 airlines, as well as brokers and companies providing cargo and sales services.

The affected companies were given until September 23 to comply with the measures, including by ceasing to supply Iranian aircraft with kerosene fuel.

Failure to comply with the US restrictions could expose the companies to sanctions and potential blacklisting, which would cut them off from the dollar-based financial system.
