Kurdistan VP bids farewell to Italian Commander.

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Major Filippo Simoncelli on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, marking the conclusion of his tenure as military commander of the Italian Special Forces within the Global Coalition against ISIS.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mustafa expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Major Simoncelli for his efforts and service during his tenure, wishing him success in his future endeavours.

Major Simoncelli, for his part, thanked the relevant institutions in the Kurdistan Region for their support and cooperation, which he said contributed to the success of his mission. He also stressed the importance of continuing military and humanitarian cooperation and relations between Italy and the Kurdistan Region.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and their impact on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as efforts towards the full unification of the Peshmerga forces.
