Brett McGurk, former US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, has welcomed the progress made towards the unification of the Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region.

McGurk re-shared a post by Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani regarding the Peshmerga unification process on X platform and described the development as “excellent news” that had been a long time coming.

"This is excellent news and a long time coming. Congratulations to all involved in this process. The world owes a debt of gratitude to the Peshmerga," McGurk said in his post.
