Begard Talabani visits President Amedi in Baghdad.

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi received Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Begard Talabani and her accompanying delegation at the Salam Palace on Monday, 14 September 2026.

The meeting focused on a number of issues related to agriculture and water resources, with President Amedi stressing the importance of cooperation between the federal government and the KRG in addressing shared challenges and developing effective solutions.

President Amedi noted that climate change, coupled with water scarcity and declining rainfall, is placing increasing pressure on the agricultural sector. He stressed the need to adopt sustainable water management plans and modernise agricultural practices to adapt to these challenges and protect Iraq’s food and water security.

For her part, Minister Talabani briefed President Amedi on the current situation of agriculture and water resources in the Kurdistan Region, highlighting key needs and priorities. She also stressed the importance of continued meetings and coordination on issues of common concern.
